			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The most common question heard when purchasing a new projector for the home, office, or classroom is: should I buy an LCD projector or a DLP projector? LCD, standing for ‘liquid crystal device’ and DLP, which stands for ‘digital light processing’ are the two commonplace projector imaging technologies. With so many company brands and different models available, it can be overwhelming for clients to make a choice between these technologies. Ultimately LCD projectors provide better image quality and colour accuracy. The next part of this article explains why DLP projectors struggle with reproducing the same standard of image quality.</p>
<p>Think of a set of blinds in your house for your bedroom window. By a twist of a rod you can have the shutters open or closed, depending on whether you want to let light in or not. Such is exactly how an LCD projector behaves. Each pixel works like a unique shutter on a set of blinds to either pass light through or to block it. DLP on the other hand is constructed of millions of microscopic mirrors or ‘pixel elements’ as the professionals like to call them. Each pixel element functions to either reflect light or block it.</p>
<p>How the light source is processed from when the projector switches on to when the image reaches your screen is vitally significant in regard to image quality, brightness and colour accuracy. LCD projectors direct white light from the lamp by separating it into red, blue and green components, by three mirrors which direct the coloured light to 3 different LCD panels. The 3 LCD panels make the elements of the image by shining each pixel on and off. The pixels are then projected in a glass prism to create the projector image. Something to understad about LCD projectors is that all three colours are projected onto your wall all at once. The way a DLP projector operates is very different and even the way an image appears is not the same. With DLP, white light from the lamp is projected through a turning colour wheel with transparent red, blue and green segments, at speeds up to 11,000 rpm/s. This method of creating an image casts a sequence of red, blue and green light. The millions of micro mirrors mentioned above reflect the coloured light on the pixels to produce the image elements. The elements of the image are projected in sequence on the screen, one colour at a time. The viewer&#8217;s eye will then combine each coloured element of the image into a whole image. With LCD projectors, all colours are available all the time to create high brightness and great colour accuracy. In DLP, only one colour is available at a time, resulting in lower colour brightness and accuracy. Some manufacturers have included a white segment in the colour wheel to improve brightness generally, but this further degrades colour accuracy.</p>
<p>I read in forums all the time that DLP gives a higher contrast ratio and therefore must be better quality. For those who do not know, the contrast ratio is a measure of a display system defined as the ratio of the luminance of the brightest white to that of the darkest black that the system is able to produce. DLP projectors do possess high contrast specifications when compared to the majority of LCD projectors. Initially, this appears to be a benefit, however, in truth, the true black level is determined by the ambient light in the room where the projector is being used. Do not be tricked by contrast specifications on websites and in brochures.</p>
<p>When the content you are trying to view has moving images, DLP projection technology can also have image marks, or ‘artifacts’. The most typical artifact that a DLP projector displays with moving images is colour break up. Colour break up is incontrovertible in DLP systems because moving images change up between the time red, blue and green colours are projected. LCD projectors do not have this downside because every colour is sent at the same time. DLP designers have come up with 3DLP solutions using 3 chips to resolve the colour break up issue, but the expense of these projectors make them hardly practical for the majority of businesses and consumers.</p>
<p>Another differentiation between LCD and DLP is how they make up for the refractive qualities of light. Remember back to high school science, and remember when they taught you how the different colours of light refract different amounts when passing through the same lens. The downfall with DLP projectors is that they take the one same panel with the same lens to project Red, Blue and Green. All 3 colours are obviously different and refract light at different levels. Most of the time with a DLP projector, some yellow colour will be projected above and some extra blue will come through below an image of something as simple as a lone black line. During manufacturing LCD projectors can be fixed to minimize these effects on the projected image, because each colour is projected on its own LCD panels.</p>
<p>The one veritable buy point (excluding price) with deciding on a DLP projector is its smaller overall size and weight. However, this is only relevant for portability and cannot be traded off against the image benefits of LCD projectors. If overall picture quality is important to you, then the decision is simple. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>As the Dutch found preeminence in sea power during the 17th century, the initial yacht had been a pleasure craft used mostly by royalty and then by the burghers for the canals and the protected and unprotected waters of the Low Countries. Yacht racing was incidental, borne from private games. English yachting started with King Charles II of England during his exile in the Low Countries. On his return to the English royalty in 1660, the city of Amsterdam presented him with a 20-metre (66-foot) leisure boat with a beam (maximum width) of 5.6 m (18 feet), which he then named Mary. Charles and his brother James, the duke of York (James II, reigned 1685–88), ordered for other yachts and in 1662 raced two of them from the Thames, from Greenwich, to Gravesend, and the same way back, on a Â£100 wager. Yachting became popular for the wealthy and aristocracy, but after that point the trend did not last.</p>
<p>The first yacht group in the British Isles, the Water Club, was started in about 1720 at Cork, Ire., as a cruising and unofficial coast guard group, and had large naval panoply and gravity. The closest thing to racing was the “chase,” in which the “fleet” pursued an imagined enemy. The club endured, mostly as a social club, until 1765, and in 1828, after merging with other clubs, it became the Cork Yacht Club (later the Royal Cork Yacht Club).</p>
<p>Yacht racing began in some ordered method on the Thames around the mid-18th century. The duke of Cumberland founded the Cumberland Fleet for Thames racing in 1775. When George IV rose to the throne in 1820, it was then known as the Fleet to His Majesty&#8217;s Coronation Sailing Society. The Thames Yacht Club seceded following a racing fight, to become the Royal Thames Yacht Club in 1830. The first English yacht association had been initiated at Cowes on the Isle of Wight in 1815, and royal sponsorship made the Solent - the strait between the mainland and the Isle of Wight - the continued site of British yachting. The organisation at Cowes became the Royal Yachting Club, likewise at the rise of George IV. All members were required to possess boats of at least 20 tons (20,321 kg). Sailing matches for large stakes were held, and the society life was lovely. It came to be that the Royal Yachting Club boats increased in size to more than 350 tons.</p>
<p>In North America, yachting was first accomplished with the Dutch in New York in the 17th century and persisted when the English gained dominance. Sailing was mostly for leisure and found its apogee in George Crowinshield&#8217;s Cleopatra&#8217;s Barge (1815), which sailed on the Mediterranean Sea and created a minimum of luxury and elegance for the later yachts in that area from the late 19th century. The first continuing American yacht group, the Detroit Boat Club, was instigated in 1839. In 1844, John C. Stevens began the New York Yacht Club aboard his schooner Gimcrack.</p>
<p><strong>Kinds of sailboats<br /></strong>The Early sailing yachts followed the design of such naval craft as brigantines, schooners, and cutters from the 17th century through the latter half of the 19th century. The design of large yachts was first largely affected by the win of America, which was designed by George Steers for a syndicate started by John C. Stevens, and it was the boat for which the America&#8217;s Cup (q.v.) found its namesake after its success at Cowes in 1851. The first yachts were not designed and crafted in today&#8217;s sense, with only a model for an outline. Not until the second half of the 19th century did what was known as naval architecture come into being. Not until the 1920s did the employment of the study of aerodynamics do for the design of sails and rigging what it had earlier done for hulls.</p>
<p>Because most of all sailboats were individually manufactured, there came a need for handicapping boats as this was before the one-design class boats were made. Hence, a rating rule was created, which ended up in the International Rule, adopted in 1906 and amended in 1919. Today, one of the fastest blossoming areas in sailing is that of one-design class boats. All boats in a one-design class are built to standard requirements in length, beam, sail area, and other elements (for an example of a two-person sailboat, see illustration). Racing for such boats can be held on an even playing field with no handicapping required. A great example is the uniform International America&#8217;s Cup Class taken on board for racers in the 1992 America&#8217;s Cup race.</p>
<p>As long as yachting was done mostly for the royal and the rich, expense was no issue, and the size of boats developed, in both length and weight. The ascendancy and preference of smaller craft happened in the latter half of the 19th century from the sailing of the Englishmen R.T. McMullen, a stockbroker, and E.F. Knight, a barrister and journalist. A journey around the world (1895–98) sailed single-handedly by the naturalized American captain Joshua Slocum in the 11.3-metre Spray demonstrated the hardiness of small craft. Following this in the 20th century, for the larger part after World War II, smaller racing and leisure craft became more popular, down to the dinghy, a preferred training boat, of 3.7 m. In the late 20th century, boats of less than 3 m were setting sail single-handedly across the Atlantic Ocean.</p>
<p><strong>Kinds of power yachts<br /></strong>After the decade 1840–50, during which steam was set to take the place of sail power in commercial boats, the steam engine, and later the internal-combustion engine, were increasingly employed in pleasure vessels. Large power yachts were progressed to a high element, and long-distance cruising became a preferred occupation of the rich. The first power yachts were paddle-wheel boats; these then gave way to yachts powered by the fully submerged screw or propeller kind of propulsion. As well as naval and merchant boats, auxiliaries carrying both sail and power were the yacht standard for a number of years. By the second half of the 20th century, many yachts were still auxiliaries, but the larger part were exclusively power yachts that had gasoline or diesel engines.</p>
<p>During the last decade of the 19th century there was a rise in the design of bigger steam yachts. Conspicuous of these was the Mayflower (1897) of 2,690 tons, containing triple-expansion engines, twin screws, and a compartmented iron hull, and was sailed by a crew of over 150. The Mayflower, bought by the United States Navy in 1898, was the official yacht of the president of the United States until 1929 and gave active service during World War II.</p>
<p>As bigger and more reliable internal-combustion engines were produced, many big craft started using them for power. The development of the diesel engine, employing heavy oil for fuel, was furthered in World War I. In the decade after, big power-yacht creation flourished, climaxing in the Orion (1930) at 3,097 tons. During that time the best auxiliary yacht manufactured was the four-masted, steel, barque-rigged Sea Cloud (1931) of 2,323 tons.</p>
<p>The manufacture of larger power yachts lessened after 1932, and the fashion after that was for smaller, less pricey boats. Following World War II, a lot of small naval vessels were bought by private owners for conversion to yachts. By the late 20th century, yachting is a internationally beloved competition enjoyed by thousands of yachtsmen personally owning and upkeeping their own small pleasure craft. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Taxes can be distinguished by the impact they have on the allocation of income and wealth. A proportional tax is the kind that imposes the same relative liability on each taxpayer—i.e., where tax liability and income move in relative levels. A progressive tax is characterizable by a larger than proportional increase in the tax burden relative to the rise in income, and a regressive tax is recognisable by a less than proportional increase in the related liability. So, progressive taxes are seen as taking away inequity in income distribution, but regressive taxes might cause an increase in these inequalities.</p>
<p>The taxes that are generally considered progressive include individual income taxes and estate taxes. Income taxes that are categorically progressive, however, could become less so within the upper-income categories—especially if a taxpayer is allowed to lower his tax base by claiming deductions or by removing particular income components from his taxable income. Proportional tax rates when applied to lower-income demographics could also be more progressive if such exemptions of a personal nature are claimed.</p>
<p>Income measured over the period of a year might not absolutely come up with the best measure of taxpaying status. For example, transitory growth in income may be saved, and during temporary declines in income a taxpayer may decide to provide for consumption by taking from savings. Thus, if taxation is held in comparison along with “permanent income,” it will be less regressive (or more progressive) than if made comparable with annual income.</p>
<p>Sales taxes and excises (with the exception of luxuries) are mostly regressive, because the share of one&#8217;s income consumed or spent for a specific good decreases as the amount of personal income rises. Poll taxes (aka head taxes), levied as a flat amount per capita, clearly are regressive.</p>
<p>It is hard to determine corporate income taxes and taxes on business as progressive, regressive, or proportionate, because of the lack of certainty about the ability of businesses to shift their tax expenses (see below Shifting and incidence).
